A word of warning

So many people clearly state that running too much all at once will cause injury. Well I was the poster child of that saying. I went from running 0 miles the year before to running close to 900 the next year. Luckily, it was not a serious injury but I did get a stress fracture on my right tibia and left foot. I was told to stop running for a few weeks so I spent the next two months swimming and running in a shallow pool.

As for the ultra marathon training, many would advise running a few marathons before attempting an ultra marathon. They are also right on this as well. I only made it part of the way through the ultra marathon schedule and it was still difficult at the end. I was always sore and tired during training, even though i was doing better in the training. So lesson learned: run a few marathons before attempting an ultra marathon.
