Mileage Run #4: Sheraton Portland Airport Review and 50th Night Gift!

I checked in after I landed at PDX around 3pm. My friends were already there and they were just settling in as well. The hotel was nice. I couldn’t get an upgrade as there were three conferences going on the Sunday we checked out.

Room

The room was on the club floor. The room was pretty big but the bathroom was pretty small. There was a generous closet and ample room near the hallway for your luggage. I only had a book-bag as I wanted to travel light.

I then spotted something on my night table:

It was a small card congratulating me on my 50th night. It technically said 50th stay, which is a few stays off. I think they always write 50th stay. I saw this on another blogger’s picture as well as it was her 100th of the year. I’ll get nowhere near 100 nights.

I received a mini bottle of Fess Parker Private Selection Merlot and some strawberries and chocolate cookie. It was good and I only enjoyed the strawberries and cookie. I gave the wine to my friends.

Club Lounge

It was on the 4th floor, which was the same floor I was on. I was in the room closest to the lounge. I thought it would be an issue with people going to the lounge but I couldn’t near anyone going in there when I turned in at around midnight.

Pictures were taken late at night so no food was out on display.

Below was the fridge that was available around the clock. There was free yogurt, water, juice, soda and I believe balls of butter.

The cereal was left out on the counter so I guess you could have gotten a bowl of cereal if you can find bowls. There was milk in the fridge.

The below fridge was locked so no free beer at this lounge. Only during happy hour. There was also a shelf with board games and books. This seemed to be a very family friendly place.

Pictures of the breakfast selection the following morning. There was bread/bagels, DIY Belgian waffles, cereal and then muffins and giant croissants. I mean giant. Like about 6-8 inches in diameter.

I got here early around 6:30am so I got my pick on all the food and there were still tons of plates and forks. When I went back with my friends later that morning around 9am, there weren’t many plates left and not many forks. There always seemed to be a shortage of glass cups for juice.

Beer Selection at the bar in the lobby:

Fitness Center

I ran a few miles after a few beers earlier that night. The treadmill was fine. It was odd that it was 90 degrees from the only TV in the room so I always had to turn my head 90 degrees to see the TV. I wish that the treadmills were in the place of the elliptical machines.

I knew I couldn’t make it to 6 or 10 miles but managed to get out 5k. Afterwards, the back of my right leg still didn’t feel well so I was glad I stopped at 5k. I’ll rest it up until the Dublin Marathon.

In between the pool and treadmill room, there was a small weight and yoga room. It also had some exercise bikes in there.

There was a conference here with Braco, who from the pamphlets here on the tables is some sort of healer. He heals people by looking at them. Nice way to make money I guess.

There was one person in front of the line in a chair. I believe he works for this conference and was on duty to monitor the line. Or he got here early and is a die-hard Braco fan.

Summary

All of the hotels on this side of the road is on the side of the airport, so you can hear planes landing and taking off. This wasn’t much of an issue for me as I slept after midnight and I don’t believe any planes landed after that. This makes it a good hotel for plane-spotting but bad if you wanted to sleep early for a meeting or a flight. Most of the hotel faces the runway so you can ask for a quieter room away from the runway.

I believe the Aloft hotel would be in a better location as its much further from the airport runway and also much closer to the MAX light rail station (Cascade Station). There is a brief walk-through of the hotel in another post.
